Our client a well-known successful builders’ providers and general DIY retail store in Carlow / Kilkenny is seeking to recruit an experienced General Manager to join the business and take over the commercial and operational management of the business.

This is a great opportunity for a senior retail manager with experience in DIY/ Building trade retail management looking to add value and gain a more autonomous role in driving sales, margin, and standards. Part of a large buying group, this job is suited to a senior manager looking to have more autonomy in all commercial and operational decisions across the business.

Builders Providers / Trade management experience is essential for this role as you will have autonomy and responsibility for attending suppliers’ meetings, product and category buying and management and margin control whilst building trade relationships.

Key Responsibilities for General Manager include the following:

  • Work closely with business partners in driving the development and P&L of the business.
  • Analyse trading reports and react accordingly in order of achieving your store KPIs, margin, and profitability.
  • Identify business opportunities and work closely with your team in achieving success across all departments.
  • Train, develop and mentor a strong sales team in delivering sales and building strong trade relationships.
  • Ensure excellent store commercial store standards – display, price, replenishment, and department category.
  • Oversee the functionality of the store to ensure annual targets.
  • Working with division managers and sales representatives to establish their monthly growth targets and development objectives.
  • Build strong relationships with suppliers, buying group and operational regional manager.
  • Identifying business opportunities and business planning

Experience and skills required include the following:

  • 5 years senior management experience in the Builders Providers Retail Trade
  • Experience in negotiating and building relationships with suppliers and brand partners
  • Strong commercial and operational acumen.
  • A proven track record in leading a successful team within a target-driven, commercial retail environment.
  • Excellent personal skills, people leadership, coaching, and training skills.
  • The ability to drive sales, standards, and compliance.
  • P&L management and margin management
  • Hands on approach to managing and leading a Retail Business
