General Manager – Waterford / Kilkenny

Our client, an Irish-owned retail pharmacy group and healthcare hub with a strong online presence, is seeking a highly driven and commercial General Manager to join the team and take over the overall operational and commercial management of the business. This role is based out of Waterford.

Reporting to the CEO, the General Manager will be instrumental in the delivery of optimal financial results through maximising sales and profitability in line with our client’s core values.

This is a wonderful opportunity for an innovative and strategic General Manager with strong business acumen, P&L, and people leadership skills to join our client where growth and opportunities are available.

Responsibilities as General Manager include:

  • Analyse business P&L and implement plan of action in the deliverance of sales, margin, space and brand
  • Set and implement the strategic direction for the entire business including retailing, purchasing, online platform, social media, and healthcare facilities
  • Building and securing strong business relationships with suppliers and affiliated partners
  • Ensure the highest level of customer service is provided to increase customer loyalty
  • Build and ensure compliance with all operational policies, procedures, and targets
  • To improve overall commercial performance for all components of our client’s business
  • To recruit, train, lead and develop a large and expanding team
  • To implement the business flow chart in accordance with business priorities
  • To liaise closely with the supervising pharmacists, pharmacists, and technicians, ensuring smooth and efficient operations
  • Working closely with suppliers ensuring all promotions are in line with the latest trends and brand values
  • To monitor and control all operational costs
  • Identify business opportunities and ensure all arms of the business are performing to the best of their ability
  • Ensure the business represents “best in class”

Skills and experience required for the role of General Manager:

  • 5+ years senior retail management/area management experience
  • 3rd level education in leadership, business, or similar field
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strategic, commercial and operational
  • A proven track record in managing a successful team within a target driven, commercial retail environment
  • A hands-on approach to managing and coaching a large team
  • Excellent interpersonal and people skills
  • Commercial focus
  • Adaptable and results-focused
